Proverbs 8
We invite you to worship with us on Sunday mornings at 9:30. You can download our service at Baptist-Christian from iTunes. Like all names for God, this one is impossible to exhaust in one sermon. The point is to see how God’s wisdom guarantees that He is always acting in our best interest and for our highest good. We are actually learning about one of God’s attributes or characteristics that make Him God! Notice
- THE EXPLANATION OF GOD’S WISDOM! The basic Hebrew and Greek works for wisdom both mean “wisdom and skill.” Dr. Giesler says, “Wisdom has to do with the ability to choose the right means for the desired ends.” In Proverbs 8:12 knowledge is grasping or comprehending truth in one’s mind. Wisdom is applying that truth to life. Since God is both infinite and wise, He is therefore, infinitely wise! For us as Christians that means God always chooses the best possible way to accomplish or reach the best possible end. Understanding this makes application to life work!
- SOME DEMONSTRATIONS OF GOD’S WISDOM! In Job 12:13; Daniel 2:20 and Revelation 7:12 God is called wise. In Psalm 19:7 and Jeremiah 8:9 He has wise words. In Psalm 104:24; Proverbs 3:19 and Jeremiah 10:12 we learn His actions are wise. And in Proverbs 2;6; 8:22; 1Kings 3:28 and Colossians 1:9 we learn that God is the Source of all wisdom. Because all that is true all of God’s acts, words, laws, decrees, statutes, and commands are also wisdom. So, any person who is considered “wise” has received their wisdom from God. Now let’s consider
- SOME APPLICATIONS OF GOD’S WISDOM! Just hearing the Word of God on Sunday morning, or rapidly reading a devotional is not enough. A true Christian must also DO what the Word says. Read James chapters 1 and 2. We can know all there is to know about wisdom, but until we apply it (do it) in our daily life it is only potential. Read Job 21:22; Psalm 180:2-4; Matthew 6:8; 10:29-30. God is omniscient which means God knows all there is to know – past, present, and future. He also knows every possible way something can and will happen. He knows which one will work best for each person for that person’s highest good. That means this: God knows the very best way for each individual to get from where they are to where God wants them to be—with the best possible results. Now read Job 11:7-11; 40:2; Psalm 115:3; Luke 18:27 and Hebrews 1:3. All these verses speak of God’s omnipotence. That means God is power, ALL power! God can do anything that is not sinful, absurd, or contradictory to His nature. He can do all that needs to be done to make us like Christ. Coupled with His wisdom it means for us as Christians – God will always lead us in the very best way to reach the very highest goals; and He has all the power necessary to help us reach those goals. God can’t lead us astray, nor can he “toy” with us. He loves us infinitely and His wisdom and omnipotence guarantee that He will always act in our best interest. The only thing left for us to do is allow Him to accomplish these high goals in our life.
